NEW EDUCATION REFORM –SRI LANKA

Higher education and Tertiary Education sectors are one of the most powerful sectors of education in Sri Lanka and it will inspire the country’s value, ethics and social institutions so that Sri Lanka becomes celebrated as an enlightened and peaceful multi-ethic, multi-religious and multi-cultural society.

EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

·         Initiated free education for primary and secondary educations in 1943.

·         Achieved very good education indices in Asia by 1960’s

·         Achieved universal access to primary education by 99.6

·         Achieved Millennium Development Goals(MDG) 2, 3,4,5,6 & 7 with health and education indicators.

Weather condition in Batticaloa is started to destroy the cultivation

The Present weather condition in Batticaloa is started to destroy the cultivation and paddy field. Most of the people are doing their self-employment in cultivation using available lands and man power. Most of are very traditional small farmers who have no idea once they meet unexpected disaster. 

I saw most of the poor farmers started to extracted their plants from their cultivation land and carefully move their equipment. 

Usually, most of them are collecting investment for their farming from their friends and pawning  their jewels. But there are no solution till when they get loss by disaster, even-though there are so many incentives and insurance systems introduced but most of them are not aware these and lack of approach by the relevant officers from government sector too. I think district politicians could take some remedial action to assist to recover poor farmers through accelerate government existing system or they could guide them to access the available facilities ASAP.

The effective GDP contributions for foreign employment- Sri Lanka

Sustaining Sri Lanka’s economic growth should be the main focus of any government to achieve its plans and vision, whether it is targeting $50 billion exports per annum or generating one million jobs. A whole host of prerequisites need to be met to sustain economic growth. Apart from political and social stability, a number of other factors like increasing savings and investment, reducing public debt, achieving low levels of inflation, increasing foreign exchange reserves, maintaining a stable exchange rate, among others are required for this purpose.

Delivering Competencies to SMEs holders gained through AAF Program – 2015 in Monash

The National Human Resources Development Council (NHRDC) of Sri Lanka, under the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs, has targeted empowering Small and Medium Industries’ holders through conducting training programs in selected districts. Soon after I participated at the Entrepreneurship Development Program which held on 12^th September – 19^th October 2015 in Monash University in Australia, the empowerment of small and medium entrepreneur development programme has developed by me and targeted SMEs in the villages. I hope after improved my skills in SMEs development, I am applying to implement with using Public and Private Partnership method to do it continually.

These training programs were held five districts and targeted another two districts with the objective of enhancing of skills of SME entrepreneurs in Administration, Financial Management, Market Identification, Managerial Issues and Strategies and Policy Framework (Tax, Audit, and Registration). 

Increasing food production through promoting SME in Sri Lanka

The SME sector in Sri Lanka is considered as the backbone of the economy with their significant characteristics on employment generation, GDP growth, improving innovation capability and stimulating of other economic activities in Sri Lanka. In the country, more than 80% of businesses run by SME’s which are mainly in foods processing, manufacturing and construction field. In addition, they are supplying about 35 percent of employment and about 20 percent of total industrial value addition (Galagoda, 2008).

The National Human Resources Development Council (NHRDC) of Sri Lanka, a respective council coming under the Ministry of National Policies and Economic affairs targeted to empower the Small and Medium Industries through conducting training programmes in selected districts. Recently, three training programmes were held in Pollonnaruwa, Matara and Kandy District with the objective of enhancing of skills of SME entrepreneurs in Administration, Financial Managemnet, Market Identification,  Managerial Issues and Strategies and Policy Framework (Tax, Audit, Registration).

Will they think about FUTURE WORKFORCE ready @ today BUDGET?

Today many young people coming out of secondary education: only 25% attend higher education, where access is very low and inequitable. Of which too large a share of students are in humanities and arts relative to sciences/engineering (50% vs. 17%); great variation in quality and abysmal quality of External Degree Programs (40% of total enrollment) another 30% enroll in TVET with low quality and relevance to market needs the remaining 45% will have limited opportunity to acquire further job-specific skills (except on the job market).

On the other hand employers see skills shortage as a major constraint; and question the quality and relevance of general education, TVET and higher education. Therefore, the national education strategy needs to take into account that skill building is a continuous process starting from early childhood: “Skills beget skills” along the life-cycle. Focusing only on the end of the education cycle may be too late and not address the core issues.
