Introduction
Sri Lanka is a country that boasts a diverse range of natural resources, including agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. However, rural areas in the country often struggle with economic instability, poverty, and underemployment. The solution to these issues lies in promoting local products and boosting trade prospects, which will create more job opportunities and improve the standard of living for rural communities.
Rural Product Promotion
Rural product promotion involves creating awareness about
locally produced products and their value. In Sri Lanka, there is a variety of
local products that have been overshadowed by imported goods. By creating
awareness of these products, consumers will be more inclined to buy and use
them, which, in turn, will support the local economy.
One way to promote rural products is by increasing the accessibility of these products to the consumers. This can be achieved through setting up farmers’ markets and establishing local shops. Farmers’ markets provide a direct connection between farmers and consumers, which helps to create a sense of community and trust. Local shops, on the other hand, can provide a permanent location for consumers to purchase locally produced goods.
